About Orchid Flower Supplies
Orchids are beautiful, ornamental flowers that are grown especially for their delightfully fragrant flowers. The two main types of orchids that are widely grown are called Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium Orchids.
Orchids need special fertilizers and growing mediums to reach their full growing potential. Orchid supply companies or greenhouses can usually supply these for you and offer helpful advice and tips on how to get the most out of your orchids. Another way to learn more about the art of orchid growing, what the best type of orchid supplies are and the nicest types of orchids to grow is to find a good book on the subject.
Different orchids have their own preferences about where they like to be kept and the humidity, light, air, the type of fertilizers are used on them and the amount of water they are given. Many orchids also have a preference to the temperature they are living in and the pot and potting mixture they are housed in. Your orchid supply professional will be able to explain the preferences of most of the orchids and by taking note of where an orchid is situated when you buy it, will also tell you about where it likes to be.
Orchids mostly like about 60% humidity. It is possible to buy a humidity tray at your local orchid supply store. If you dont buy a humidity tray, a saucer with rocks and water will also help with humidity. This is especially important for orchids that are being grown indoors.
Orchids vary in the amount of light that they prefer. So make sure that you choose a spot that is like the area that the orchid was already being grown in. Orchids that are kept indoors also need fresh air and a well-ventilated area to grow in. By opening a door or window or even turning on an indoor fan will help decrease the risk of the orchid getting bugs or bacteria.
Orchids require a special orchid fertilizer once a week. An orchid supplier will be able to recommend a suitable fertilizer to suit the type of orchid you are growing. Orchids also require a special potting medium to help them grow. By using a medium that already has an added dose of fertilizer you will give your orchids a boost. Potting mixtures and growing mediums can be found at your local orchid supply store along with the other things needed to grow orchids.
Orchid supplies can be ordered online by doing a search on your favorite search engine or by visiting your local orchid suppler. Remember to research which type of orchid will suit your conditions and what type of fertilizers and potting mediums the orchid will require before buying it. That way you will be well on your way to having a stunning feature in your home or greenhouse when your orchids flower.

Combination of Dried & Fresh Flowers?
My dad’s cousin has offered to create my floral arrangements for me as a wedding gift (provided I supply the cost of the materials, which I don’t mind). She is completely happy with me choosing whatever I’d like and making it for me.
My mother has made it clear that she expects me and the bridal party to be sporting fresh florals the day of. I’ve given up talking to her about it because she just yells, gets angry, and won’t listen (she’s also paying for the wedding along with Drew’s parents).
But because my cousin would only have an hour and a half to set up for the wedding due to venue rules, and because she’s not actually a florist (just a hobby of hers), I’m afraid that asking her to do bouquets and centerpieces would tax her time, her energy, and her fridge.
I recently bought one foot tall apothecary jars for my center pieces and I’m quite happy with them. My idea is to go ahead and ask for a simple bouquet arrangements for the day of. But for centerpieces, fill the apothecary jars with dried white flowers and some dried greenery. It’s cheaper than fresh flowers (I can get 30 large white orchids for $10, not bad since I love orchids) and we can create the arrangements ahead of time and deliver them two weeks before the wedding along with the programs, cake cutters, etc. The venue has already said they accept everything we want to give them early, in fact they prefer it in case of time crunches.
Would it look wrong having dried arrangements in apothecary jars but fresh bouquets? The fresh flowers would be similar to the dried flowers (white roses/hydrangea/orchids).
Some of the flowers I was planning on ordering for the jars:

ALSO: If you do like my idea, what do you think about adding birds nest and butterflies to a couple of the pieces for a summery touch?

Wedding colors are fern (olive-ish) and off-white with touches of dark brown for a morning June wedding.

I like your color & flower choices but I really don’t like the dried flower idea. The butterflies are cute but not with dried flowers. It’s all just too . . . well dry. They would look good with fresh flowers though. The bird nests I don’t like at all. Unless they had birds in them, I’d probably be trying to figure out what the dried up thing on the table is. So, I’d say butterflies with fresh flowers.

I think it’s perfect
When I first read that you wanted to do dried flowers, I thought about the really dry, actually dead looking ones. But when I looked at the pictures, I see that they are so pretty. Have you shown your mom what your ideas are? Maybe if you sat her down with pictures of everything that you want to do, and tell her how much it means to you, she might come around. Or, take the cost of it on yourself, so that she doesn’t have the upper hand in it.
Good Luck, and your wedding sounds like it’s going to be beautiful!!

We are doing a similar thing for my daughter’s wedding in June. Fresh flower bouquets for the wedding party, the guys, dads, moms and grandmas. But for the reception, making up a combination of dried arrangements with a few fresh flowers that will be added at the last minute — possibly roses, iris, not really sure yet.(also doing this as we are making these up before hand).
Our centerpieces will be in 12" vases with these great bead fillers that expand on contact with water. Just tried them out last night and they are wonderful. Lights in the water (2 pink lights for each vase). Going to have dried pussy willows – which look just like fresh, possibly ferns and other dried fillers (love the ones you have here). Then a few fresh flowers to round it out. Since the wedding is in another State then where we live, it is much easier to do and make ahead, and they are going to look terrific.
Your colors sound really pretty and the choices you found here are great — thanks for sharing, I’m earmarking those pages.

in the midst of june wedding planning.
It will look fine. I can’t think of a single wedding I’ve attended where I’ve compared the flowers in the girls’ hands to the ones on the tables. Go with it and don’t give it a second thought.
